Jan Phillips 2007, 2008
Occupation: Court Clerk

As Susan Kinski appeared in court after falling asleep at the wheel of her car and knocking down Bridget Parker, clerk Jan Phillips announced that she was charged, under section 22 of the crimes act, with conduct endangering life. As Judge Roy Evans then asked what Susan's plea was, her lawyer Toadie Rebecchi started to suffer a panic attack and asked for an adjournment, which was rejected. Toadie's attack then got worse and the court was forced to take a 30-minute recess. The trial then continued with various others - Susan's husband Karl, witness Mickey Gannon and Bridget herself - giving evidence but, desperate to be punished, Susan told Toadie not to cross-examine any more witnesses. Judge Evans announced that the trial would resume the next morning but, that evening, Bridget suddenly had a flashback to the accident and remembered that she had fallen into the road, so Susan wasn't to blame. Toadie then managed to convince prosecutor Cynthia Peters to push for a suspended sentence, if Susan changed her plea to guilty and the trial ended.

The following year, Jan was also present at the trial of Angus Henderson, who had been involved in a relationship with schoolgirl Rachel Kinski when he was her teacher. Despite Rachel's impassioned speech about how she'd willingly gone along with the whole thing and should share responsibility, Angus received a six-month prison sentence from Judge Anderson.
