The owner of the Quill Group of hotels, Craig Quill almost took over ownership of Lassiter's hotel in Erinsborough in 2014, going as far as to send his acquisitions manager Nigel Sheppard to talk to owner Paul Robinson, but ultimately Paul backed out of the deal. The following year, believing that he was dying from leukaemia, Paul sold the hotel to the Quill Group, and their new acquisitions manager, Ezra Hanley, arrived to start the handover process. Ezra had history in Erinsborough, having attempted to assault the hotel's manager Terese Willis, and when it was revealed that she wasn't the only victim, he was arrested and taken away. After learning that he wasn't actually dying, Paul attempted to find a way to get his hotel back, and when Craig came by to discuss contracts, Paul blackmailed him, warning that it would destroy his professional reputation if the press found out that he'd hired someone like Ezra, knowing what he'd been accused of. Craig then decided to cut his losses and signed the hotel back to Paul.
