Brett Sharp 1992
Occupation: Student
When Toby Mangel started year 7 at Erinsborough High, he quickly became the target of a couple of bullies, Brett Sharp and Peter Banks, on his first morning there. However, when school principal, and Toby’s guardian, Dorothy Burke, stepped in and ended the situation, giving a detention to both of the older boys, it only made matters worse for Toby. They flushed his head down the toilet and said that he’d have to pay them to stop it from happening again. Back at home, Toby confided in his beloved pet Labrador, Bouncer, about the situation, and decided that the best course of action was not to tell Dorothy, and to make sure that the bullies didn’t find out that he lived with her.
That afternoon, he brought them back some food to keep them off his back, but Peter and Brett weren’t impressed when the sandwiches contained chilli sauce. They warned Toby to meet them after school with something better, or they’d have to flush him again. When Toby’s friend, Phoebe Bright, found out about the situation, she told him that she had an idea to get rid of the bullies for good. When Toby later met Brett and Peter at the back of the school, he had a cake box with him and the boys quickly took it from him, but recoiled in horror when they saw what was inside – Phoebe’s pet snake, Oscar. The boys ran off, claiming that they had better things to do with their time than hang out with weirdos, and Toby’s bullying ordeal was over as quickly as it had started.
Notes: Anthony Engelman returned later in 1992 as an unnamed ‘yahoo’ (possibly Brett Sharp again) who bullied Debbie Martin when her father, Philip, started working at the high school as janitor. In 1994, he returned to the show in the guest, and later permanent, role of Kevin ‘Stonefish’ Rebecchi.
