Bob Sutton 1985
Lived: 30 Ramsay Street
Marital Status: Jan
Children: Bernie
When Ramsay Street resident Bob Sutton bought a new BNX bike for his young son, Bernie, it quickly became the source of a feud with neighbour Jim Robinson. As Bob taught his son road safety, it quickly became apparent to Jim that Bob had told Bernie to ride towards oncoming traffic when the young boy suddenly sped out in front of him and he knocked him down. Fortunately, Bernie wasn’t hurt, but Jim confronted Bob about Bernie’s lack of awareness and even brought him some road safety pamphlets in the hope that it would teach him some sense. Stubborn Bob refused to be told how to raise his own son and confronted Jim, telling him to keep his nose out of other people’s affairs. Sadly for the Suttons, it was advice that they should have taken, as, only a couple of weeks later, Bernie was knocked from his bike on the main road and killed instantly. After the funeral, Bob apologised to Jim for the way he’d spoken to him and admitted that, if only he hadn’t been so pig-headed, his son might still be around. Shortly after the accident, Bob and his wife, Jan, moved out of Ramsay Street.
Notes: Chris Waters returned in 1987 as Graham Baxter, in 1989 as Barry Dwyer and in 1999 as Gordon Collins.
