Desperate to get back together with ex-girlfriend Dee Bliss, who was now in a relationship with Toadie Rebecchi, Darcy Tyler engineered events so that he had to give Dee a lift to Toadie’s family reunion in Colac. When Darcy’s car ‘broke down’ en route, he suggested they stay at a motel for the night while the car was fixed, only for the motel owner Barry Taylor to tell them that he only had one room left, with a double bed. As Dee reluctantly went to check out the room, Darcy thanked Barry for his help in the plan, and Barry switched his ‘vacancies’ sign back on.
