When her husband, advertising exec Charles, began having an affair with his PA, Naomi Canning, it was Naomi's mum, Sheila who reported the information back to Polly Tranner. Polly and Charles' marriage continued, but Charles also kept Naomi as his mistress and Polly turned a blind eye, though she was never happy with the situation. However, after five years, Naomi left Charles, going to Erinsborough to try to patch things up with her mum, as the two hadn't spoken since Sheila told Polly about the affair. Naomi took with her a Daisy Nader painting, that she claimed to have been a gift from Charles and that she intended to sell in order to make some money for herself. Naomi sold the painting to Paul Robinson, but it wasn't long before the police turned up to sieze it, as Polly had reported it as stolen. Polly wasn't far behind, determined to get back the painting that Charles had bought with 'family money' and not wanting Naomi to get anything out of the arrangement. A cat fight soon broke out between the two women, and Naomi warned that she would take Polly to court over ownership of the painting. After tempting Charles to town by sending him some naked photos, Naomi tried to get him to sign documents to prove that the painting was hers, but he couldn't do it, showing himself to be a coward and making Naomi realise that she'd been right to leave him. Polly then agreed that she would drop the theft charges she was pressing against Naomi, if Naomi dropped her case to prove ownership, and Naomi was then left with nothing.
