Prepare to farewell one of your favourite neighbours! Kate Keltie, who plays the kind-hearted Ramsay Street teenager Michelle Scully, has just filmed her final scenes for the long-running soapie.

“I just need a bit of time to do my own thing and chill out a bit and look at some other options,” Kate explains. When she landed the role of Michelle three-and-a-half years ago at the age of 13, Kate was already an industry veteran. She had a major role in children’s sci-fi series Thunderstone and guest roles in Blue Heelers and Halifax f.p.

“I went to drama school when I was little, but it was just because my best friend was going and I wanted to do it for a bit of fun,” she laughs. “I kind of fell into acting and have been working ever since. I’ve been very lucky.”

Over the past three years, Kate has formed some very close bonds with her cast mates. “I’ve spent more time on set than at home – and I speak to my pretend parents Joe and Lyn (Shane Connor and Janet Andrewartha) more than I would my real ones!” she says. “It was like a real family. We all became really close and went through different stages of our lives together.”

Kate will be seen on-air until mid-May. She won’t say how Michelle’s departure is handled, but reveals the door will be left open for her character to return to Ramsay Street one day.
