Neighbours’ favourite young mother is set to return to Ramsay Street.

Elaine Smith, playing Daphne Clarke, will be reunited with her husband, Des (Paul Keane) and baby Jamie.

Elaine left Network Ten’s Logie-winning soap last September, after almost three years, for the fun and adventure of overseas travel.

“After being away, it will be lovely to see everybody again,” Elaine says.

In the show, Daphne left Ramsay Street to look after her dying father, leaving Des to look after the baby. Elaine will be back on the set in February.

“I haven’t seen the script so I don’t know what the storyline will be,” she says. Elaine spent six weeks on a whirlwind tour of England, Scotland and France.

“I was born in Scotland but left when I was two,” she says. “My father loved travelling so, as a family, we moved around a bit before settling in Perth when I was 13.”

After experiencing a European winter, Elaine headed for Perth. While seeing friends and relatives there, Elaine performed in Bob Larbey’s play A Month Of Sundays.

“It was fabulous to do theatre again,” she says.
