Ironman Grant Kenny postponed his honeymoon for a week to play his first role on a soap – Network 10’s Neighbours
Grant, who married longtime girlfriend Lisa Curry on April 19, flew to Melbourne just 48 hours after the wedding ceremony to start work in Neighbours. He plays – naturally enough – an ironman who becomes a romantic interest for attractive Nikki Dennison, played by Charlene Fenn.
Nikki wins a date with the ironman, which leads to a rift among the more volatile residents of Ramsay Street. This role will be Grant’s second dramatic appearance. In 1981 he co-starred with Ray Barrett, Liddy Clark and Brian Blain in an episode of the ABC series Sporting Chance. His other television work includes occasional appearances as a guest referee on Network 10’s It’s A Knockout.
“I loved Sporting Chance, so when they asked me to do Neighbours I agreed,” a beaming Grant told TV Week. And he said he was not worried about having to postpone his honeymoon – a three-month trip to Hawaii and Canada, during which he will compete in several events.
“We’ve got so much to do before going away, it’s actually quite handy,” Grant said. “As well as the wedding we’ve moved into our new house. I always think it’s a bit silly flying out the day after a wedding anyway. This way we have more time to organise things.”
Grant said he and Lisa had been looking forward to married life and the opportunity it gave to spend more time together. We used to always be passing each other in airport terminals,” he said.
