Hunky Alex Dimitriades is set to join Ramsay Street in a bid to boost ratings…

One of Australia’s hunkiest exports, Alex Dimitriades, 21, is about to spice things up in Erinsborough when he begins his role in Neighbours.

With so many recent cast departures such as Kimberley Davies and Richard Grieve, producers are keen to pep up the show. The perfect solution was to bring in a big star to boost ratings. Alex (who is great friends with previous Neighbours heart-throb Dan Falzon) received a sea of good publicity, both here and in Oz, when he starred in the film The Heartbreak Kid and its spin-off series, Heartbreak High.

He’s also won rave reviews for his performance as criminal Warren Lanfranchi in telemovie Blue Murder. “Alex is a very popular and talented young actor,” a source said. “Filling Neighbours with beautiful unknowns isn’t working. When Kimberley left, she took a lot of the show’s sparkle along with her.”

Much is resting on the young actor’s shoulders, but if anyone can come up with the goods, it’s Alex. But rumour has it that he may not be settling down permanently in Melbourne. An Australian magazine reported that a close friend of Alex’s is sure this role is just a temporary measure.

Alex has many acting ambitions to fulfil, both at home and abroad. His ultimate ambition is to make it in Hollywood. But there’s plenty of time for that. So, for now, things will definitely be looking up for the Neighbour-hood!
