One of Neighbours’ most popular stars has quit the series.
Mark Little, who has played loveable rogue Joe Mangel for almost three years, dropped the bombshell on Neighbours producers last week. His contract still has four months to run, but he has told producers that when it expires he will definitely leave Ramsay Street.
Mark was unavailable for comment as TV Week went to press, but a spokesperson for the Network Ten series says: “Mark has been with the show since June 1988 and I think he feels it’s time to move on. It’s important to him that he doesn’t seem to be a quitter, but he has projects in different areas that he is keen to pursue and he thinks the time is right to do those now.”
“As with any ongoing drama, it’s the nature of the production that cast members have to leave. Inevitably they are replaced by new actors who are hopefully just as talented.”
Mark, a versatile actor/comedian, has lined up a stand-up comedy season at Sydney’s Belvoir Street theatre from September.
He is also promoting the movie Nirvana Street Murder, in which he stars with Ben Mendelsohn. The low-budget comedy/thriller, from first-time writer/director Aleksi Vellis, opens in Melbourne and Sydney in May.
