Alyce Platt has made the big move to Ramsay Street…

Alyce Platt is thrilled to be the latest addition to the Neighbours cast. She says that prospect of steady work in an ongoing role enticed her to join the popular TV soapie.

“A lot of people like to be working actors rather than out-of-work actors, and I’m one of them,” Alyce says. “I don’t get many opportunities to have a long run of work – that’s why Neighbours is really appealing. This is a chance to practise my craft.”

Alyce, best remembered from her days as Sale of the Century co-host alongside Toby Barber, plays newcomer Jen Handley on the Ten network soap. A first-year medical student, Jen befriends Cody (played by Peta Brady) at university and soon becomes a replacement sister and mentor for her.

“She’s quite independent and unconventional in her ways,” says Alyce of her new character, due to appear in mid-February. A recent spate of guest roles – an episode of Nine’s Halifax f.p., a role in the ABC courtroom drama Janus and a five-week stint on Ten’s now-defunct A Country Practice - along with her songwriting abilities, have kept Alyce’s creativity and self-esteem intact.

“It’s really tough for actors out there looking for work,” says Alyce, 30. “I’m fortunate because I’ve got my music, which means I haven’t been waiting for the phone to ring.”
