Danni Stark has had a tough time and she’s not about to make life easy for everyone else

No one was more shocked to see her own kids expelled from boarding school and back on the family doorstep than Neighbours’ mum Cheryl Stark – but now it looks like tearaway brother and sister Brett and Danni Stark are here to stay. And that’s great news as far as Neighbours newcomer Eliza Szonert, who plays devil-may-care Danni, is concerned.

“I’m really getting into it now,” beams Eliza, who has been a regular on Ramsay Street for almost a year now in Australia. “But I hated seeing myself on screen at first and the long hours and routine took a lot of getting used to.”

Coping with stardom in her own country is something the twenty-two-year-old soap star is used to now, but is she prepared for the impact she’ll have when she hits screens worldwide?

“I forget that people are watching it to be honest,” laughs Eliza. “Most of the time I don’t have a problem with people recognising me but every now and then you get someone being rude or really stupid, which you just have to smile and ignore.”

Meanwhile, UK fans have a bit of catching up to do as far as Danni’s antics are concerned and after her surprise debut, she is set to rock Ramsay Street with her escapades.

“Danni likes to get what she wants and she can be a right little schemer,” warns Eliza. “She likes to concoct plans to get her own way and can be a real troublemaker. Brett is the opposite to her in lots of ways and he’s always lecturing her on doing things without thinking.”

To start with, Danni is none too pleased at her mum’s apparent rekindling of passion with next door neighbour Lou and makes her feelings very clear to long-suffering Cheryl.

“Danni’s still angry at life. Her father died unexpectedly and she hasn’t really sorted out her feelings as far as that tragedy is concerned,” reveals Eliza. “She doesn’t like Lou interfering in their lives but as her relationship with Lou gradually grows better she does learn.”

But Danni has a few secrets of her own to come to terms with, as Neighbours fans will soon discover when she makes a startling confession later this month. Meanwhile, Eliza is looking forward to taking a well-deserved break at Christmas.

“I can’t wait to spend some time just hanging out in the sun with my mates and a couple of pina coladas!” laughs Eliza. Some girls have all the luck.
