One Year Ago - November and December 2005

The 2005 season reached its conclusion with a cancer scare and an attempted murder…

 

• Harold’s grief over losing David, Liljana and Serena manifests itself into a dependency on Connor, who he finds living on the streets of Melbourne and offers a room at number 24. When Connor eventually comes to his senses and returns to number 30, Harold finally snaps and goes over to number 22, where he finds Paul on the phone to his son, Cameron. Harold walks up behind Paul and strangles him

Steph starts having strange, and sometimes passionate, dreams about Drew Kirk and confides in Lyn, unsure of what they can mean. When the dreams take a sinister turn, Steph begins to worry that her baby’s life is in danger, then starts to worry about Boyd and Max, before realising that it’s her own health that’s in danger. After checking, she informs Max that she’s found another lump in her breast

Stuart goes undercover at the prison to prove that Roo was behind the armed robbery which left Dylan and Stingray behind bars, but Roo realises who his new cellmate “Mick” truly is. When the prison is on lockdown, Roo and Dylan have a final confrontation in which Roo admits to everything, not realising that the radio in the cell is bugged. Stingray and Dylan then return home in time for Christmas

Summer also returns for Christmas with her family, but when the Robinsons’ Christmas lights cause a power blackout in the street, Paul generously offers to take everyone down to one of the conference rooms at Lassiter’s


Elle desperately tries to get closer to Ned and helps him with rehearsals for the musical he’s appearing in. When she realises that he has trouble with his reading and writing, she tries to help him, and the pair grow closer, eventually sharing a passionate kiss during rehearsals

Susan and Alex start planning their wedding, but the symptoms of his leukaemia start to return, which he keeps a secret until he can no longer hide it. After telling Rachel and Zeke about his illness, they decide to track down their sister, Katya, realising that they can no longer trust the adults around them. Katya turns up just in time to see her father marry Susan before he dies that night

Joe proposes to Lyn and she accepts, but when Toby calls asking for his father’s help, Joe leaves for Western Australia, unsure of whether he’ll return. On her own again, Lyn accepts an offer of a job as Paul Robinson’s personal assistant

 

Five Years Ago - November and December 2001

A dramatic birth and a return from the dead brought 2001 to a close…

• Libby and Drew attend the Oakey Rodeo, where Libby suddenly finds herself in premature labour, locked inside a barn. She finally manages to call Susan, who raises the alarm and Libby is airlifted to the hospital where she gives birth to a healthy baby boy. Just as the family are celebrating, Libby goes into cardiac arrest

Steph, on the verge of a trip away with new boyfriend Mitch, is stunned to find Woody on her doorstep. He admits that he’s been in hiding since the car crash but, now that Kev Kelly is dead, they can be together. Steph is torn between Mitch and Woody, and hoping to help her make up her mind, Woody stuns Steph by proposing to her

Paul is forced to help coach a kids’ football team after his muck-up day prank goes wrong and he’s suspended from his final weeks at school. When one of the kids’ fathers turns out to be a talent scout, Paul is drafted by the Adelaide Crows team and leaves Erinsborough for his new career

Lou loses custody of Louise to John and Sandy Allen. After the court case, he disappears with Louise and Harold tracks him down to a caravan park and convinces him to go home as he’s only making things worse for himself. Back in Ramsay Street, Lou bids a sad farewell to his daughter

Joel attempts to impress famous marine biologist Vernon Wells and claims that he has his deep sea diving certificate, so he can take part in a research dive. When Dee find out, she quickly stops Joel from taking part, but Vernon gives him another chance and Joel wins him over by finding a valuable tea set

Susan receives a surprise visit from her sister, Liz, who is moving to Sweden and wants Susan and Karl to look after her wild daughter, Elly, for six months. Susan barely has time to think about it before Elly turns up on her doorstep, complete with police escort

Matt takes part in, and wins, a Barmaid of the Year competition, but his prize is a free treatment at the salon - with Flick – and he’s worried that his secret crush on her is about to be revealed

 


Ten Years Ago - November and December 1996

Old faces and new celebrated Christmas, but the day ended with a possible tragedy…

 

• Madge returns from Queensland as news of Harold’s return from the dead reaches her. The pair slowly work their way back to each other, as Harold’s memories start to return when Lou calls him ‘Jelly Belly’. The Bishops then move back into number 24 and celebrate Christmas with each other, though Lou makes it clear that he’s still interested in Madge

Making the final touches to the pub renovations on Christmas morning, Mal slips on a cloth and knocks over a ladder which lands across his neck. Karl realises that his son’s windpipe is crushed and he has to perform a tricky operation on him or he’ll suffocate before the ambulance arrives

Realising that Billy and Anne want to be together, but are too shy to approach each other, Toadie and Lance send them Christmas presents ‘to Billy from Anne’ and ‘to Anne from Billy’. However, when Billy and Anne find out the truth, it looks like it could be the end of Billy and Toadie’s friendship

Whilst making mince pies together, Philip and Ruth’s bickering finally turns to passion and they share a kiss, interrupted by Lance, who is upset by what he sees

Luke hears that Danni is unwell with malaria in Malaysia and he flies out there to join her, unsure of when, and if, he’ll be back. His room is taken over by sexist Vince, who upsets Catherine and Sarah by coming on to them all the time

The love triangle between Joanna, Mal and Catherine takes a new turn as Mal makes it clear that he’s not interested in Jo and starts a secret relationship with Catherine. Jo is upset to find out the truth about her friends betraying her when she spots them together outside the Coffee Shop

Debbie, also uncomfortable about her father’s growing relationship with Ruth, is annoyed when Philip refuses to give her a loan to start up her own catering business
