One Year Ago - October 2005

A dramatic event shook Ramsay Street to its very core…

 

• Alex admits to Susan that he’s dying, only moments after Karl breaks his Hippocratic Oath and tells her the same thing. Susan reacts well, until Alex admits that he only proposed to her so that Rachel and Zeke would have someone to look after them. They split up, but eventually reconcile

Roo Hausman returns to get revenge on Dylan. He kidnaps Stingray, then uses him to lure Dylan to his car. Roo then forces Dylan to rob a service station in broad daylight

Connor turns to Carmella who gets him the $50,000 for Maddy's operation, before lying that it was a mob loan from her father. A panicked Connor steals from the bikini shop to try and pay her back

Toadie becomes convinced that secretive Ned is gay, when he’s actually been attending rehearsals for a local musical. Ned allows the charade to continue, before finally owning up but not letting on about his other secret – difficulties with his reading and writing


Elle starts drugging Izzy’s food in an attempt to make it look like her addiction has returned and to get her out of Paul’s life. Izzy quickly realises what’s going on and manages to frame Elle. Meanwhile, a war begins between Joe and Janelle for Lyn’s attention. Janelle steals Audrey the dog, who was helping Joe’s greyhound, Bouncer 5, win races, so, as revenge, Joe emails Janelle’s novel to everyone in Erinsborough. The plan backfires, however, when a publisher gets hold of it

A joy flight to Tasmania to celebrate 20 years of Lassiter’s ends in tragedy when a bomb in planted on the plane, which explodes over the Bass Strait. Connor and Dylan are washed up on a beach and decide not to return home and face the consequences of their crimes, while David, Liljana and Serena are all missing, presumed dead

 

Five Years Ago - October 2001

A custody battle, a homeless shelter and a miscarriage made for a dramatic month…

• Drew and Libby start looking for a house of their own, in preparation for the arrival of the baby, but get a big shock when Drew’s younger brother, Dougal, turns up, having run away from home

Harold’s plans to turn number 24 into a homeless shelter meets opposition from various neighbours, including Lyn and Maggie, who don’t want their children growing up in a street full of unsavoury characters. Paul also objects to having them in his home, until he bonds with homeless Dave Gorman

Lou begins to feel smothered by John and Sandy Allen, particularly when he learns that Sandy can’t have children and John wants more access to Louise. They take things to court, where John raises issues about Lou’s past painkiller addiction and ends up winning temporary custody

Tad and Flick become a couple but struggle to make the transition from friends to lovers, particularly as Tad starts receiving attention from Lily Auster, who tries to get him to split up with Flick, but, in the end, they stay together

Michelle feels threatened when Bianca meets Zack and when Zack ignores her in the school corridors. He later admits to Michelle that he wants a mature relationship and doesn’t think they should socialise at school. Not wanting to lose him, Michelle agrees to this

Darcy and Karl continue to feud over the surgery plans with Karl planning to set up his own practice without Darcy. In the end, the pair find themselves on the scene during an accident at a building site and the feud ends as Darcy saves Karl from the collapsing building

Still unsure about her feelings for the baby she’s carrying, fate steps in for Dee when she slips on the driveway and ends up miscarrying Darcy’s baby

 


Ten Years Ago - October 1996

A funeral, a new face and the departure of a couple of old favourites…

 

• Darren struggles to cope with his grief as Brett returns and the day of Cheryl’s funeral dawns. He continues to blame Karl for everything

Lou returns in the middle of Cheryl’s wake and is stunned to learn that she’s died, as he’d only just received a letter from her, asking to give their relationship another try. Darren’s anger, meanwhile, transfers to Lou who receives the pub in Cheryl’s will

Helen gets a new physiotherapist in the form of Ruth Wilkinson. Although Helen gets along well with her, Philip doesn’t approve of her and the two argue to the point where he sacks her. Meanwhile, Ruth’s son is revealed to be Hannah’s ex-boyfriend, Lance

Angie and Stonie pack up and leave Ramsay Street, but, at the last minute, Toadie decides that he can’t go, and ends up moving in with the Kennedys

When Marlene meets a man named Ted at a local Salvation Army shop, Helen is convinced that it’s Harold Bishop – back from the dead. When nobody else manages to get a glimpse of the mysterious Ted, they think that Helen’s stroke has affected her more than they realised

Mal spots Billy’s girlfriend, Melissa, with another guy, Anthony. Melissa then shocks Billy by dumping him

Following his crisis with Cheryl, Karl stuns his family by deciding to give up on his career as a doctor and instead, helping out Mal with the handyman business
