One Year Ago - January and February 2006

2006 began with attempted murder, a fight for custody and a battle against cancer…

 

• Harold struggles to cope with his attempt to strangle Paul and eventually leaves town whilst Lou tries to keep his friend’s secret, sharing the burden with Sky. Upon his return, Harold finally confesses to Paul, who decides not to go to the police, but rather to force the General Store to close by opening Lucinda’s Café and undercutting their prices

Susan, Rachel and Zeke leave for the planned honeymoon in Belarus and the Trans-Siberian railway, but not before Katya makes it clear that she won’t simply let Susan have custody of her siblings. Upon their return, Katya reveals that she’s transferred to Erinsborough Hospital and is renting a flat nearby, and will fight Susan for custody. When Katya learns that Karl broke his Hippocratic oath and told Susan about Alex’s illness, she threatens to report him and end his career

Angie returns to town in order to get Toadie’s life in shape, but it seems that Janelle isn’t too happy to have her sister-in-law in town

When Paul tries to stop Elle seeing Ned, she threatens to leave with him and return to Tasmania. Realising that Paul will fall apart without his daughter around, Izzy seduces Ned and gets him to break up with Elle


Steph learns that her cancer has returned, but opts not to have any treatment until after baby Charlie is born. Desperately concerned for his wife, Max decides to have her declared mentally unfit and take over her medical decisions, but he realises at the last minute that he has made the wrong decision and Steph decides that she can no longer trust him and the marriage is over

Connor helps Toadie with some private investigation and decides that he quite enjoys it and wants to make a career out of it. After a course at the university, he becomes Erinsborough’s most inept P.I.

Having failed to complete year 12, Stingray tries any means possible to get a place on the uni’s film studies course, eventually impressing the dean, Josh Nelson, enough to secure an unofficial place

 

Five Years Ago - January and February 2002

There were some important decisions to be made as the 2002 season began…

• Libby survives the traumatic birth of her baby and, although she’s allowed home, the baby must stay in hospital for a few more weeks. They eventually decide to name him Ben Kennedy Kirk

Steph is shocked when Woody tells her that Mitch was in prison for killing a man, accidentally, during an insurance job. She decides that she’s better off without either of them in her life and tells them both that she doesn’t want to see them again

Joel and Dee make plans for a fresh start in Queensland, but Joel makes a serious mistake when he blurts out to Darcy that Dee was pregnant and miscarried his child. Realising that she can’t trust him, Dee decides to stay in Erinsborough and says a tearful farewell to Joel at the jetty

After failing to win over Karl, receptionist Serena Lucas moves her attentions to Darcy and manages to come between him and Karl. Darcy defends his new girlfriend, unaware that she is stealing prescription pads and running an illegal drug scam

A devastated Elly realises that her mother isn’t going to be coming back for her and has dumped her in Ramsay Street for six months. She decides to go to Sweden and be with her mum, but Susan arrives at the airport and stops her just in time

Drew’s old friend Stuart Parker arrives from Oakey, clearly trying to escape from someone or something. After outstaying his welcome at Drew and Libby’s flat, he takes the couch at number 30 and grows close to Dee, who is still getting over Joel

Flick tries to get into a PR course at the university, but fails and instead finds work as a publicity girl for Grappa drinks. After realising that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, she accepts a place at another university and leaves Erinsborough

 


Ten Years Ago - January and February 1997

The new year began with love in the air, a proposal and a surprise affair…

 

• Mal survives his near-death experience and Karl regains his confidence and decides to return to his old career as a doctor, but finds that he has to win back the trust of his old patients

Darren agrees to teach Catherine to drive, when she is forced to overcome her principles and learn if she wants to keep her job. Their constant bickering soon turns to passion and they share a kiss, witnessed by Marlene

Following Toadie’s Christmas shenanigans, his friendship with Billy is destroyed for good. As Billy tries to be independent and goes bungee-jumping, Toadie decides to leave town, with Billy convincing him to stay at the last minute

A new teacher, Lisa Elliot, starts at the high school and Susan mentions that the girls at number 30 need a new housemate, so Lisa moves in

When Phil refuses to give Debbie the financial backing to start her own catering business, she turns to Helen instead. Philip is furious, as Helen is still recovering from her stroke and he feels that Debbie is taking advantage of her. Debbie is furious when Phil convinces Helen not to invest

Despite Lou’s attempts to win her back, Madge’s relationship with Harold goes from strength to strength, but the arrival of his friend, Claudia, from Tasmania, throws a spanner in the works, as Claudia wants Harold to herself. In order to prove that he’s serious about her, Harold proposes to Madge all over again. They renew their wedding vows before returning to her family in Queensland

Billy decides that he wants to be with Anne, but it may be too late as her old friend, Justin, is also showing an interest. Phil and Ruth, meanwhile, attempt to start a relationship but can’t stop fighting

Twenty Years Ago - January and February 1987

Neighbours’ third season kicked off with a kidnapping and continued with the arrival of some new faces and the departures of some old favourites…

• • A man claiming to be Reverend Errol Price, who had known Terry Robinson in prison before she committed suicide, visits the Robinson house and kidnaps Helen. It is later revealed that he’s Ralph Drew, who is obsessed with getting revenge on Paul for driving Terry to kill herself. Fortunately, Helen is found and makes a quick recovery from her ordeal

Susan and Clive’s relationship comes to an abrupt halt as her feelings for Paul are revealed and they cancel the wedding. Susan and Sam then disappear, but Charlene stays in touch and arranges for Clive to say a final goodbye to them before they return to Coffs Harbour

Mike, Scott, Charlene and Jane receive their exam results. Mike begins university, Charlene looks for work as a mechanic, Jane becomes the new secretary at the Daniels Corporation, while Scott is forced to repeat his final year, as his grades aren’t good enough to get him into a journalism course

Madge’s son, Henry, is released from prison, but Madge decides that she wants nothing more to do with him and tells him he can’t stay in Ramsay Street. Just as Henry is leaving, Madge has a change of heart

Following his heartbreak over Susan, Clive decides to make a fresh start and moves out of Ramsay Street to live in the flat behind his surgery

Madge finds out that her old flame, Harold Bishop, is coming to town, but decides not to contact him. Believing her mother is stubborn, but lonely, Charlene arranges for him to visit the Ramsay house and the old flames are soon picking up where they left off

Some criminals target Des, as the manager of Pacific Bank, and hold Daphne hostage one weekend, whilst they forced Des to take them to the bank and hand over money. Fortunately, Henry and Clive save the day, and pregnant Daphne survives the ordeal
