Magic Moments > 1985 > Paul and Terry's Wedding: Part 1 Episode 128

Written by Lyn Ogilvy, Directed by Mark Piper, Produced by John Holmes

Channel Seven: 11/09/85, BBC One: 28/04/87, UK Gold: 28/04/93

Danny asks Maria if she’s spoken to Max, then he realises that Max doesn’t want to look after him if Maria goes away to Hong Kong... Max realises that it would be too difficult for him and Danny to live together... A woman arrives at number 26 and introduces herself as Gwen, Helen’s sister...

Jim invites Gwen in, while a horrified Helen goes into the kitchen. Julie introduces herself and explains how glad she is that Gwen could make it. Terry leaves, and Gwen explains that she just popped in to say thankyou for the invitation. She says she won’t be staying long and calls goodbye to Helen as she leaves. Helen starts shouting at Julie, asking her why she did this. She says she’ll never forgive Gwen, but Julie says that they shouldn’t hold grudges. Helen storms off, saying that she’s sick of death of Julie being such a busybody.

At number 28, Daphne asks Terry if she’s nervous. She says she is, a bit, and Daphne apologises for what she said about Shane. Terry says it’s fine, and that Shane was once very special to her. They both wonder where the boys have got to, and Terry thanks Daphne and says she’s going to bed. Suddenly, Shane and Des burst in the door and start joking about getting married themselves. Des goes to make coffee and Shane tells Daphne that he hopes Paul will make it back in time for the wedding. Daphne tries to get Shane to sort things out between them and they agree to stay as good friends for the time being. Shane tells her that the thing with Liz was nothing and she tells him that it showed her how much their time together really meant. Daphne goes to see Shane out, and Des tells them to kiss and make up. As they’re kissing, Terry appears from her bedroom and then apologises quickly and goes back in.

At number 24, Richard tells Maria how great she looks and asks after Danny. She says he’s getting ready in his room and Richard asks if he’s getting all dressed up too. Maria explains that they’re going to a wedding, and that Danny won’t be coming with them. Richard realises that Maria isn’t going to come either, and tells her that there must be some way around this. She says that Danny is her responsibility and that she can’t have a half-hearted relationship with him. Richard says that he can’t lose Maria, but she tells him to go.

. . .

Outside the house, Max arrives and sees Richard on the stairs. Richard explains what Maria’s just told him and Max says that they all need to work this out.

Back inside, Danny and Shane are comforting Maria, when there’s a knock at the door. Danny goes to answer it, while Maria runs to hide in the kitchen. Max bursts in and demands to see Maria. Everyone sits down and Max explains that he’s realised that he’s got responsibilities now. He says he’s thought about it and knows that he isn’t easy to get on with, but if Maria wants to go away with Richard, then it’ll cause a lot less heartache for everyone if she does.

At number 26, Helen and Jim are discussing what they’ll do if Paul doesn’t turn up. Scott arrives and Jim explains that Paul’s been held up by delays in Singapore. In the kitchen, Julie is bossing the caterers around, and Scott comes in with his camera to annoy then. Lucy runs in and Scotts chases her out of the kitchen, while the caterer asks for a coffee and Julie tells him to get on with his work. Lucy comes in looking worried, and Julie realises that Basil has chewed up her shoe. Julie gets really annoyed, and then notices him chewing on the other shoe. Helen tells Lucy to take the dog outside.

In the back garden of number 26, Max appears to tell Jim that he’s moving back into the street once Maria has left. He says that he had no choice, as they couldn’t all be unhappy, but he feels like he’s had his guts ripped out. Jim asks Max if he’s up to the wedding, and he says he’ll help if Jim will help him move out of the bedsit.

Back at number 28, Terry is getting nervous and keeps asking what the time is. Daphne tells her to get dressed, and Terry worries that Paul might stand her up. Des gets off the phone to the airline and insists that Paul will be back in time. Terry goes to get ready, then there’s a knock at the door. It’s a big parcel for Terry, and Des and Daphne are shocked to find a wreath inside with the words ‘Til Death Us Do Part’.

Scott is at number 28 taking photos of Terry and her two bridesmaids, Lucy and Julie. The phone rings and Julie answers to the news that Paul has landed. Julie is still being negative, saying he’ll probably get held up, and they all go outside to take more photos. Meanwhile, Daphne is cutting Des’ hair and they agree not to tell Terry about the wreath. Daphne asks what the police said, and Des explains that there’s no law against sending a wreath to a wedding.

. . .

At number 26, everyone is gathered, and Helen is worried that there’ll be more delays. Jim offers her a drink, then there’s a car horn outside and Paul pulls up in a taxi.

Shane runs out to meet Paul and tells him he’s cutting it fine. Max walks up and tells him that he has ten minutes. They all go inside and Paul jumps for joy.

. . .

At number 28, Julie is complaining about how disorganised Paul is. Terry is relieved to see Paul arriving and Scott takes their photo.

Jim tells Helen that they can all relax now, but then Gwen arrives and Helen makes a sharp exit. Daphne arrives and tells Maria that she hopes she’ll be happy with Richard.

. . .

Julie is rearranging Terry’s hair and tells her that the day is going to go really well.

. . .

The phone rings at number 26 and Scott answers to a man insisting that he speaks to Mr. Robinson. Scott finds Jim in the crowd, and he picks up the phone. The man tells him that he’d better get everyone out, as he’s planted a bomb under the house, and it’s due to go off in ten minutes…
