An old friend of Daphne Lawrence, Father Kevin Barry brought with him a lot of speculation when he came to Ramsay Street and started spending a lot of time with the stripper. However, Daphne made it quite clear to the gossips that they were nothing more than friends, while Kevin helped Paul and Scott Robinson to track down Scott’s missing girlfriend, Kim Taylor.

Having found Kim in a squat in the city, Paul became very interested in Kevin’s social work. When Kevin bumped into Carol Brown at number 28 while visiting one day, he became concerned. It seemed that Kevin had been counselling Carol through alcoholism for several months. When Paul then found Carol collapsed in her hall one day, he called in Kevin. Things came to a head when Carol’s husband Ted walked out, taking their kids with him. Kevin managed to convince a frightened Carol to give up drinking for the sake of her family, before continuing his good work at his drop-in centre.
