Environmental scientist Ray was brought to Erinsborough by his old friend from Shepparton, Gabby Walker. Gabby had been working at the General Store with Harold Bishop and learnt of the problems that the local people were having with a rising water table, which was forcing them out of their homes. He agreed to carry out a new survey on the area but one person who didn’t want this was Paul Robinson. Paul had faked the original survey in order to get everyone out of their homes so that multinational corporation Affirmacon could build a shopping mall on the land. Paul did a little bit of snooping and, just as Ray was about to reveal his test results, Paul reminded him of an affair he’d had back in his home town, not to mention a good behaviour bond which had seen him fleeing to the city. Not wanting his past exposed, Ray was forced to tell the locals that the findings of the original survey had been correct.
