Guest Character Profiles > Keith Illingworth Bill Charles

Reverend Keith Illingworth 2006, 2008
Occupation: Vicar

Having been turned away by Catholic priest Father Capitola, Lyn Scully and Paul Robinson turned to Reverend Keith Illingworth, who agreed to marry them. On the day of the wedding, Reverend Illingworth reassured a distracted Paul as they waited for the bride, little realising that Paul’s mood wasn’t down to nerves but rather thoughts of young lawyer Rosetta Cammeniti, who he had kissed a few days earlier. When the time came to say their vows, Paul struggled to concentrate and the entire wedding party waited with baited breath as it seemed like he was about to jilt Lyn, only to suddenly snap back to life and take Lyn as his wife. Sadly though, the relief of their families was to be short-lived, as, on the wedding night, Paul admitted to Lyn that he could never promise to be completely faithful to her and the marriage was over before it had even begun.

Eighteen months later, and Lyn's daughter Steph was back at the same church, marrying her boyfriend Toadie Rebecchi in front of Reverend Illingworth - though it was little surprise that Paul wasn't on the guest list. It was to be another dramatic Scully wedding, with the groom unsure that the bride wanted to go through with it - a belief that seemed to be confirmed as she stumbled over her vows and he called the whole thing off in front of everyone. After attempts to reason with Toadie came to nothing, Steph announced to their gathered families and friends that there wasn't going to be a wedding, before rushing out of the church in tears.
