Following an environmental report by the local council, which suggested that Ramsay Street would fall victim to a rising water table and that everyone would have to sell up, the locals asked scientist Ray Hope to conduct a second report. However, Paul Robinson, who was actually plotting to get everyone to sell up so that multinational corporation Affirmacon could build a mall on the land, blackmailed Ray into backing up the original report. But as suspicions spread in the area about Paul’s involvement, the local people called for another report, from Peg Verity, in secret. Peg’s tests showed that there was actually no problem with a rising water table. As a result, the residents of Ramsay Street were able to prevent their homes being sold, and Paul was almost killed by thugs from Affirmacon.
