The young daughter of alcoholic Carol Brown and her husband, Ted, Josie and her baby brother Tommy were often left outside to play alone when their mum was on one of her drinking binges. The neighbours soon became concerned, and things got worse when Danny Ramsay spotted Josie running out onto the street to fetch her ball, and Carol accused him of trying to abduct her daughter, and later that day, Paul Robinson called over to return a cookery book, to find Josie and Tommy sitting on the front steps, and Carol passed out in the hallway. It wasn't until her husband Ted walked out, taking the children with him, that Carol finally admitted that she had a problem and agreed to get help.

Trivia Notes
• Charmaine Gorman returned in 1986 to play Vicki Gibbons and in 1997 to play Rebecca Knotts. Charmaine is the sister of Kate Gorman, who played Sue Parker and the daughter of Reg Gorman, who played Wally Walters in 1985 and Jock Finch in 1999, and Judith Roberts, who played Mrs Cooper in 1985 and Frances Nagel in 2000 and 2001
