Ramsay Street: Dressed in his pyjama bottoms, Danny Ramsay runs towards a number of parked cars surrounding him. As he approaches, the car headlights go on and people start getting out of them. Danny stops and watches as these people start laughing at him. Danny runs to one man who puts his hand around his throat. Danny breaks free and runs in the opposite direction but then stops. He sees a man waving to him from the top of a diving board – Danny screams his name ‘Shane!’ The man continues to wave and then dives off the board – Danny screams ‘No’….
No 24 - Danny's bedroom: Danny awakes from the nightmare still screaming ‘No’. It takes him a few moments to realise it was all a bad dream.
Dr Lawson's surgery: Dr. Lawson finishes his medical checks on Danny and questions how he is getting on with his family & with school. Danny tells him all is okay. Dr. Lawson then asks about the nightmares and Danny realises his father has told the doctor about these. Danny is annoyed at his father and pretends he does not remember what the nightmares are about. Danny remarks the only problem he has is that his father doesn’t understand him.
Ramsay Street: Danny cycles into Ramsay Street, past neighbours Des Clarke & Paul Robinson who are unloading the back of a car outside No.28. Danny stops outside No.26 to speak to Scott Robinson who is waiting for his sister Julie who’s going to give him a lift into town. Danny mentions he has been to see the doctor.
No 26 - Lounge: Julie Robinson is in a hurry to leave and her grandmother Helen Daniels is rushing too. She hands Julie a dress wrapped in a protective cover and warns Julie to give it an iron before wearing it. Helen asks Julie to tell Lorraine she’ll make a lovely bride and that Des is a lucky man. After Julie leaves, Helen falls against the door exhausted.
Ramsay Street: Des is fretting over Lorraine’s reaction if the house is a mess after the bucks’ party. Paul tries to reassure him when Julie calls out to ask if he has any last message for her. Des mentions he’s about to call Lorraine himself. Julie warns Des not to get too drunk before getting into her car with Scott. Paul asks Danny to tell Shane to hurry on over.
No 24 - Lounge: Shane Ramsay is on the phone organising Daphne to be the entertainment at the bucks’ party. She agrees but as it is at short notice she can only arrive after midnight. Maria Ramsay hands Shane a sandwich, determined to see her son eat something before the party. Danny arrives and mentions Paul is after him. Maria asks how it went at the doctors. Danny is dismissive and goes to his room.
No 24 - Danny's bedroom: Danny lies on his bed and Maria comes in wanting to know what the doctor said. Danny is angry that his father told the doctor about his nightmares. Maria tries to make him understand it is because they care about him. Shane comes into the room to say goodbye. Maria expresses concern about hosting the party in the street due to the noise and her husband’s lack of patience. Shane jokes with her that they’ll be very quiet.
Ramsay Street: The bucks’ night is in full swing as disco lights and load music can be seen in the street from No 28. The silhouette of the stripper can be seen dancing too.
No 28 - Lounge: Inside, the partygoers are watching the stripper dancing, jeering loudly at her as she does her routine.
The Kingham house - Lorraine's bedroom: Julie and Lorraine Kingham prepare to go to bed when Lorraine’s mother arrives with cocoa. Mrs. Kingham remarks that Lorraine’s father is still not happy with her marrying Des tomorrow but he will get used to it. After she leaves Julie tries to cheer Lorraine up by assuring her as long as she really loves Des, nothing else matters. Lorraine questions why Julie split up with Des and ruffled, Julie skirts around the reason but tells her Des is the safe, reliable option to be with and she must really love him. As they both settle down to sleep, Lorraine begins to think about things…
The Kingham house - Lorraine's bedroom: It’s now 2am and Julie is desperately trying to get Lorraine to reconsider ringing Des. The line is engaged and Julie assures her it’s because he wants a good night's sleep.
No 28 - Lounge: Back at No 28, Des sits and watches Daphne as she continues to strip. Paul Robinson is clearly very drunk.
Ramsay Street: Outside the music is clearly too loud as it can be heard all over the street.
No 24 - Danny's bedroom: Danny is suffering another nightmare about an accident involving Shane when he wakes up after Max shouts at him. Maria checks on her son and Danny realises he can hear music. Maria mentions the bucks’ night is still going on and Max is looking to end it. Danny lies to his mother that he cannot remember what he dreamt about.
No 24 - Lounge: Max rings Jim Robinson asking him if he intends to stop the party.
No 26 - Lounge: Jim wants to let the fun continue but Max warns he’ll put a stop to it if Jim doesn’t. Helen watches from the window curious about the stripper when Lucy comes out from her room after being woken up by the noise. Scott arrives home late as he should have been home by midnight. He’s surprised to see his family still up and assumes it is because he’s in trouble. Jim explains it is because of the noise but wants to know where Scott has been. Scott uses the excuse to answer the phone to avoid explaining. It’s Max again. Scott gives Jim the phone and rushes off to bed.
No 24 - Lounge/No 26 - Lounge: Max wants to know if Jim has gone to No.28 yet. Jim urges him to give the party another 15 minutes. Max is adamant though he’ll stop it now!
Ramsay Street: Max angrily walks across the street towards No 28. His mood is worsened when a dog starts barking and snapping at his pyjama bottoms.
No 28: Max bangs angrily on No 28’s front door. The door opens and he sees Daphne telling Des she is unhappy with what some of the partygoers expected her to do. Max shouts he wants to speak to Des – Daphne tells Max to drop dead! Furious, Max storms in and finishes the party telling everyone to go home.
No 26 - Lounge: Jim and Helen listen to Max putting an end to the party and send Lucy off to bed. As they prepare to retire to bed there is a loud knocking on the door. Jim opens it to see Max carrying a very drunk Paul dressed as a baby. Paul collapses into Jim’s arms.
Outdoor swimming pool: Max is impatiently waiting for Shane to get to the poolside when Danny and Scott arrive. Danny is nervous as he watches his brother climb the steps to the diving board. As Shane mentally prepares himself Danny has flashbacks to his nightmare and calls out to Shane to be careful. Max is unhappy at Danny breaking his concentration and tells his son to shut up. Danny watches as Shane takes the dive but panics as it takes a few moments for Shane to resurface.
No 26 - Kitchen/lounge: Jim calls to Paul in his bedroom to get his son to get up for the big day ahead. Helen is preparing breakfast for her and Jim. Paul hung over enters the kitchen and Jim seizes the opportunity to make a lot of noise around the kitchen to annoy Paul. Des calls and Jim takes advantage of his feeling hungover as well. Paul calls his father sadistic. Des is concerned as he tells Paul that Lorraine has rung and coming over to the house with her parents. Julie suddenly arrives home and Paul starts to question what is going on. Des thinks he has heard a car pull up and hangs up. Paul wants answers from Julie why Lorraine is coming over to see Des.
No 28: Des’s visitor is Daphne who he doesn’t initially recognise - she has left her watch behind and has come to collect it.
No 28 - Des' bedroom: Daphne and Des go into the bedroom where she changed and left the watch under the mattress for safe keeping. But it has gone. Des asks her to carry on looking as he’s expecting visitors.
No 26 - Kitchen: Julie is being very coy with Paul, Jim & Helen as to events surrounding Lorraine. Eventually she reveals that Lorraine is coming over to tell Des that she is calling off the wedding as she doesn’t really love him. Paul is furious, suspecting his sister has manipulated the situation. Julie defends her opinions she expressed as being truthful. Everyone takes a moment to remember what Des is about to go through.
No 28 - Lounge: Des is trying to tidy up the house, which has rubbish everywhere, and the furniture turned upside down. Lorraine and her parents enter the house and Lorraine is appalled by what she sees. Her father uses it to reinforce why he thinks she is making the right decision. Mr. Kingham takes delight in telling Des that the wedding is cancelled. Des is astounded. Daphne then walks out of the bedroom clutching a rubber doll with her watch around its wrist. She sees the Kingham’s and recognises Mr. Kingham. He is rather embarrassed to see her.
Trivia Notes
• Helen Daniels is called ‘Grandma’ - this would last just 3 weeks before the rest of her time on the show she was called ‘Gran’
• Elaine Smith was the second actress to play Daphne. Scenes were re-shot when Elaine took over the role
