Restaurant: Shane takes a moment before telling Daphne he thinks her idea of lodging with Des could work and means they’ll be neighbours.

No 26 - Lounge: Jim and Helen prepare to go to bed and Helen takes the opportunity to remind Jim that this end of night routine of him locking the house and preparing to go to bed is making him fall into a rut. Jim remakes she should practice what she preaches. Helen laughs to herself.

Outdoor swimming pool: The next morning, Shane is practicing his diving technique with Max watching – Daphne walks up and Shane sees her below and gives a wave. Daphne and Max unknowingly wave back. Shane feels the pressure to impress but makes a great dive, getting praise from his father – but only while he’s under the water. Danny and Scott are watching from the other side of the pool and Danny questions whether Scott ever dreams about accidents – Scott doesn’t really understand where Danny is coming from and Danny quickly dismisses the subject. Shane continues to practice and max takes the opportunity to express his opinion that Shane will only succeed if he stays away from the wrong people. Daphne makes it clear she knows he thinks she is the wrong kind of people. Shane comes over and Daphne explains she has to leave as she is going to see Des about renting the room. Max erupts telling her she can’t move in, as he doesn’t want a stripper living in the street named after his grandfather! Daphne mocks him before leaving still determined to see Des. Scott alone sees classmate Kim Taylor sitting by herself full dressed. He calls over to her but Danny with a couple of friends including a girl called Sharon tease Kim. Scott defends Kim explaining she can’t help being the teacher’s daughter. Danny brushes it off and leaves with his friends to meet Shane. Scott calls over to Kim again and she explains she was there for a swimming lesson but the teacher never turned up. Scott offers to give her a lesson but nervous Kim explains she cannot today, as she doesn’t want to miss her bus. Danny introduces Sharon and the other girls to Shane but as Shane starts to chat to them max interrupts and berates Danny for interrupting Shane’s training. Humiliated Danny storms off. Shane is furious and tells his father to never repeat what he just did.

No 26 - Front garden: Jim is out digging over the front garden when Daphne enquires after Des. She also sounds out how Jim would feel if she moved into the street and Jim reassures her she’s doing the right thing when he remarks it is no ones business but Des’s who lives with him. Jim then adds he hopes she gets the room.

No 28 - Lounge: Des is adamant no woman is moving in with him! Daphne has to remind him there is no underlying reason to be with him other than to rent a room. Des then remarks he’s concerned about what the neighbours will say – Daphne however is only interested in his opinion and suggests they could trial living together for a month.

No 24 - Kitchen/lounge: Maria has to listen to Max’s unjustified opinions about Daphne’s influence on Shane and her intentions to move into the street. Maria can only remind him that Shane is old enough to see who ever he wants. Jim arrives with some tools to help Max fit a new panel in the lounge ceiling after Max explains how Danny caused the bathroom to flood by leaving the bath to spill over. Max begins to tell Jim about Daphne moving in and warns about how house prices could fall. Jim however dismisses Max’s opinions and remarks how he likes Daphne. Jim offers his help if Max needs it to replace the ceiling panel. After Jim leaves Max expresses disbelief at Jim being so calm about Daphne – Maria reminds him that Jim is a very compassionate man.

No 26 - Lounge: Julie is sowing when Lucy interrupts asking questions about Daphne. She remarks how pretty Daphne is which only annoys Julie further. Julie tells Lucy she agrees with Max that Daphne will give the street a bad name by living there and that Des should find a decent girl. Lucy asks the difference between a stripper and a decent girl. Julie points out that she is a decent girl. Lucy still can’t see a difference.

. . .

Outside the swimming pool: Scott and Kim are eating an ice cream as they make their way out of the swimming pool complex. Scott explains how Helen moved in to look after the Robinson family after his mother died. Kim realises the time and has to rush off leaving Scott looking forward to school so he can see her again.

No 26 - Lounge: Paul answers the front door and neighbour Mrs. Armitage rushes in to seek refuge. She explains that she has had another row with her husband and needed to find a safe place to hide while the situation clams down. Paul remarks that this type of thing is nothing new and maybe they should seek counselling. Mrs. Armitage however could never tell a stranger her problems! Helen inadvertently walks in on the discussion but before she can slip past is spotted. She offers to make Mrs. Armitage a cup of tea before she goes back home, leaving Paul to continue listening to the neighbours marital strife.

. . .

No 24 - Kitchen: Shane returns from diving practice while Maria prepares lunch with Max keeping her company. Max questions if he knows where Danny went to after storming off from the pool. Shane reminds his father he only did it after Max embarrassed him in front of his friends. Max isn’t interested however that he may have been wrong and Shane explains Danny is over visiting Des. Max asks Shane to command Danny to come home for lunch.

No 28 - Kitchen: Danny meanwhile is telling Des all about how humiliated he felt by Max in front of his friends. Helen reminds her that it is none of Lorraine’s business. Scott arrives home from the pool and receives a call from Kim. Kim tells Scott she really enjoyed being with him earlier and agrees to go out on a date with Scott on Saturday. Paul meanwhile takes the chance to tease his brother before he hangs up.

The Taylor house - Hallway: Kim’s mother Marcia Taylor comes into the room as Kim hangs up the phone. Kim lies to her telling her it was a friend Betty Regan who she was talking to. Marcia is not pleased with Kim associating with Betty but Kim is defiant that she is going out on Saturday with Betty, as Marcia doesn’t like any of her friends anyway.
